Manenberg came out to Jazz on the Greens

The City of Cape Town hosted the annual Jazz on the Greens event this past Saturday, 11 March 2023, where local artists and talent entertained the community throughout the day. The City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews, joined in on the celebrations.
Local artists including the likes of Temple Girls; Iekeraam Cupido and Tazz Simons (Yesmasekind) to name a few, performed at this all-day musical affair. The Jazz on the Greens event seeks to showcase the skills and talents of local artists and youth from Manenberg and the broader communities within the social and cultural sector.
The initiative provides a platform for various youth groups involved in music, dancing and arts and it stimulates the local economy through the provision of space for informal businesses to market their goods and services on the day.
‘This annual event promotes social cohesion and highlights the unity of the Manenberg community which is actively supported by the City of Cape Town via the Mayoral Urban Regeneration Programme (MURP). The festival is a joint effort between the City via MURP and the community leaders. It is an example of how a community can take ownership of an event that is meaningful to them and to work with the City to deliver what they know their residents would appreciate most,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
The Jazz on the Greens is an annual event which seeks to promote vibrancy in Manenberg. The festival was initiated in 2018, however, the City was not able to host the event for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is the intention of the City of Cape Town, through MURP, to host similar events in a number of other communities across the metropole. Further details of these events will be communicated once confirmed.
